There are four different ways that you can implement a system:
1.Direct changeover
2.Parallel running
3.Phased implementation
4.Pilot implementation

Direct changeover - The organization stops using their old system and start using the new system.
Parallel running - This implementation method involves old and new systems working at the same time for a certain period of time. In the supermarket this would mean customers going through the old till with their shopping and then immediately going through the new check out.

Phased Implementation - This is a useful strategy for systems that are made up of smaller sub-systems. The idea is to introduce computerization in each sub-system one at a time
In this one section of the organisation start using the new system, there it is thoroughly tested by the users. Then the next phase of implementation follows to the next section of the organisation and so on.

Pilot Implementation - Pilot implementation is to try out the new system only one part of an organisation. If successful adapt it to the whole system.
